Macronutrients are the essential nutrients required by the body in large amounts to provide energy and support overall health. The three main types of macronutrients are proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Each plays a unique role in the body, contributing to various physiological processes.

1. Proteins

  • Function: Proteins are made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of the body. They play a crucial role in building and repairing tissues, including muscles, organs, and skin. Proteins are also involved in the production of enzymes, hormones, and other essential molecules.
  • Sources: Protein can be found in both animal and plant-based foods. Common sources include meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, nuts, seeds, and some grains.

2. Carbohydrates

  • Function: Carbohydrates are the body's primary source of energy. They are broken down into glucose (sugar), which is used for fuel by the body's cells, especially the brain and muscles. Carbs are classified as simple (sugars) or complex (starches and fiber), with fiber playing an essential role in digestive health.

3. Fats
